Kancho visit to Tokushin Kai

 Kanazawa Kancho (10th Dan) was able to take time in his busy schedule to come to Milton Keynes on 11th October and visit the Nipponzan Myohoji Temple, and after a special greeting ceremony for Kanazawa Kancho had a traditional Japanese meal with the monks. Later in the evening, he visited the Olney Dojo for a special 2 hour session.
The session began at 7pm, and after an intensive warm up, Kanazawa Kancho began with Kihon - Oi Zuki, Gyaku Zuki, Age Uke, Soto Uke, Uchi Uke, Shuto Uke, Mae Geri and Mawashi Geri.
 After practicing Mawashi Geri we proceeded to pair up, holding each others forward hands and holding up the rear arm at Jodan level. Then, taking turns, stepped up with the rear leg and kicked our partners rear hand Kizami Mawashi Geri, and then stepped back down.
Next we moved onto Kata. Kanazawa Kancho first took the Brown Belts and Dan grades through Enpi,  before moving onto the various other Kyu grades in attendance. With the assistance of Sensei’s Brown, Gillies and Rafferty, Kanazawa Kancho went through Tekki Shodan with the 4th Kyus, Heian Yondan with the 6th Kyus and Heian Shodan with the 9th Kyus. Kanazawa Kancho then finished by going through Chinte with the Dan grades before drawing the session to a close.
Unfortunately, after the time spent on Kata during the evening there was no time for any Kumite training, however Kanazawa Kancho promised to ‘finish the lesson’ next time he came to the dojo!
 After the session Kanazawa Kancho was happy to join us in some group photos before a meal at the local Chinese Restaurant and a trip to Watford the following day. Kanazawa Kancho’s visit to Tokushin Kai was a historical event for the club and a memorable, enjoyable one for all those who attended. We all look forward to the next time Kanazawa Kancho is able to visit us and ‘finish the lesson’!
